I’m trying to use Polylines to lay out the electric cables though the apartment and I’m having some… questions.

1. How do I add points to the already existing polyline? I just can’t find how to do it or it’s not possible? (Example what I need below)

2. How to measure the total length of the polyline? Only manually?

Re: Polylines

In your case, I would use very thin walls.

Re: Polylines

@1. -Install AdvancedEditing plugin;
-Select the polyline;
-Edit points.
-New (on bottom left).

@2. To have the length I use HORIZONTAL cylinder, export to CSV then in Calc or Excel make the sum;
I use this also for pipes.
NOTE: the cylinder MUST be horizontal in library to keep the correct length in any position or angle.

Re: Polylines

Hello,
I just tried to add points to an existing polyline but I can’t find the menu item «Edit points» when I have a polyline selected.
I have the AdvancedEditing plugin installed.
What do I wrong?

Re: Polylines

I just found the solution;
The «Edit points» menu item does not appear in the right mouse button menu but only if you have a polyline selected under Plan main menu item.
Hope this clarification helps other users too.

I searched in the forum, but I couldn’t find anything alike, so I’m asking for it.

It would be really handy if we could easily edit the poly lines. I am thinking something like the walls, or room shape editor where I can join/split already existing polylines, add/delete points.

Thank you for your time reading this (and all that you put into this fantastic program as well)!

Thanks for the tip. But more questions has arisen recently:

— Why a segment of a wall can be transformed into the form of an arc, but segment of a polyline cannot? How to make a freeformed line contour, like in an ordinary vector graphic editor? An architector may need to make a more complex line contour, not only straight segments and simple symmetric arcs..
That wonderful program needs a full vector lines creating module, as in Corel Designer, for example.. To make a model of building with walls of variable thickness and complex geometry, one needs a good vector contour line creating tool..

— When I select a segment of a wall, there is no ability to open the menu «change wall» by right-clicking on it, the context menu is the same as without wall selecting, and I have to open «change walls» point every time
It’s annoying a little.

Re: Polyline and walls contour. How to change angle?

To change a wall, I see the option in the context menu (right click), it shows you can open the modal with the Ctrl+Shift+E shortcut, or you can double-click on the wall. (Same for a room.)
You don’t lack options.

Re: Polyline and walls contour. How to change angle?

Well, perhaps it’s all right for the menu.
I’ve just found a curve creating function — Holding a CTRL key when drawing a polyline.. But the truth is that the method of vector line creating is quite peculiar — there is no new control points creating option for correcting the line form, no combination of straight and curved segments in one polyline.. In general, the working with vector polyline is rather primitive and limited in that program, a set of vector line instruments would be a good option here.

And a tool for changing the geometry of the wall profile to create complex wall structures, would not really hurt. An ideal variant — creating contour plan of walls by vector line instrument, then filling the contour with a «fill tool», and mapping that scheme in the 3D screen.
It’s a sweet dream of 3D architectural design!

On the tools menu you have «Generate 3D shape» and «Generate generic shape».

But I assume you want shapes like new furniture. You can combine objects (box, cylinder, walls, etc.) and export them to an .obj file. When you import the .obj file you get a single object of the combined objects you exported. That’s how you can create new furniture. Draw, resize and position, combine, export, import. You can of course create multiple exports of combined objects to combine again after import to create a more complex object.
